The 35th legislative district is one of the most beautiful areas of the country. Our outdoor activities are unparalleled and our people are kind, generous and resilient. We have a chance to make this district even better by electing representatives that will work to improve our infrastructure, create jobs and combat climate change. This is why I am running to be your representative in the Washington state Legislature.
Why am I running?
I am running to make sure that we fund our children’s education by securing funding for building upgrades and making sure that our teachers don’t have to buy their own school supplies. I will work to secure funding for updated textbooks so that we are giving the most accurate and up to date lessons. Our children deserve to learn in an environment that lends itself to higher test scores, lower dropout rates, and provides more opportunities for advanced degrees post-high school.
I am running to upgrade our infrastructure by securing more funding to rebuild our roads and bridges. I want to bring highspeed broadband internet to the entire 35th LD. Internet should not be a luxury anymore. It is an integral part of our daily lives, and everyone needs to have access. When I am elected, this will be one of my top priorities.
I am running to upgrade our human infrastructure. We need to have more services that can reach those in our most rural areas. Not everyone has access to a reliable car to get to a store. I will work to secure funding to bring in more public transportation, meal programs, and grants for non-profits. I will work with state agencies on new innovative and workable programs that are not only great in principle, but have a practical administrative view as to how to implement a good social program.
I am running to help protect our communities by finding ways to combat the threat of climate change and its effect on our waterways, wildlife, and those most vulnerable to extreme weather. Our summers are hotter and dryer than ever before, and we are having snow stick around a lot longer than it used to in the winter. I will look to energy alternatives that will benefit everyone here in the 35th by having cheap, reliable, and renewable energy for our homes, buildings, and streetlights. A little extra money in our pockets and not in those of the energy companies is always a good thing for everyone.
I have worked for the people in many capacities over almost 14 years as a Washington State employee, and currently as a Mason County employee. The greatest joys of my working life have been when I am able to make better the lives of the people around me and whom I serve. I like to see how government can work for the people, and how the civil servants who work for the people do it with humility, grace, and sometimes against great adversity.
I am a candidate that can see the process from beginning to end as I have worked to implement those laws with the numerous agency and municipality work that I have done. I can be a voice of sanity and compromise to make these laws better and much easier to implement at all levels.
Most of all, I am running for you. Every one of you.
You are all my family, friends, and neighbors, and I want you to not only live well, but also healthy, happy, and free. I don’t want anyone to have to choose between their food or their mortgage. Their child’s diapers or their electric bill. Their medication or their property taxes. This must end, and I will work every day to make sure that the most vulnerable among us are given the chance to live with dignity, respect, and pride.
Finally,I pledge not to take contributions over $200 from oil, gas, and coal industry executives, lobbyists, and PACs and instead prioritize the health of our families, climate, and democracy over fossil fuel industry profits.
I look forward to seeing you on the campaign trail!
